An average Swedish company website loses about 77% of interested visitors already in the form. It's like having a store where seven out of ten customers turn around at the door because the checkout is hard to find or complicated to use. It sounds crazy, but this is the reality for many companies I meet.

I've sat with CEOs wondering why they don't get more inquiries, even though they invest money in traffic and advertising. The answer is often simpler than you think: the form scares people away. Not because it's ugly, but because it's too long, unclear, or feels insecure.

What does having the wrong form cost?

I remember a company that spent 25,000 SEK per month on Google Ads. They got about 1,500 visitors but only two to three inquiries per week. We tested shortening the form from eight to three fields, gave a clear confirmation, and removed all unnecessary requirements. Cost: 8,000 SEK for the work. After launch, the number of leads doubled without any increase in traffic. Suddenly, the same ad budget generated twice as many business opportunities.

So what makes the difference? A good form is short, clear, and creates trust. People want to know why you need certain information and what happens when they submit it. For example, if you only ask for name, email, and phone (and explain why), the conversion rate often increases from 1% to 2.4%. For a company with 1,500 visitors per month, that means 15 to 60 leads instead of 15.

How you can improve your form

It doesn't have to be a big project or cost a fortune. Most improvements take a couple of hours to implement. Some things I usually start with:

  • Remove unnecessary fields (do you really need a postal code?)
  • Explain why you ask for the information
  • Show a clear confirmation immediately after submitting the form
  • Test it yourself on mobile — does it feel quick and easy?
  • Add a small text about how you handle personal data

A simple form improvement often costs between 5,000 and 15,000 SEK. If it means you get twice as many leads from the same traffic, you've earned back the investment in the first month. That's a better return than almost anything else you can do digitally.

What happens if you don't do it?

The biggest mistake I see is letting the form be “good enough.” But that's rarely true. A small friction, an unclear field, or an insecure feeling makes people drop off. You don't need more visitors; you need more who dare to get in touch.

I see it every time we improve a form on darek.se or at a client: more inquiries, more business, often without even increasing the ad budget. It's one of the easiest paths to real growth, yet it is often overlooked.

Personally, I find it a bit strange that companies spend so much money chasing new traffic but rarely review what actually converts visitors into customers. My experience is that the biggest gains lie in the details already in place but that can be made just a little, little better.
